- In 2007, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) received 31,304 domestic-related crime calls—one every 17 minutes. This number is an increase of 7.3% from 29,179 calls in 2006.
- The majority of domestic-related calls were reported from the Seventh Police District (8,334 calls, or 26.6%), followed by the Sixth Police District (7,474 calls, or 23.9%) and the Fifth Police District (4,927 calls, or 15.7%).
- Domestic/family violence homicides, not including child abuse, accounted for 6% of all murders in the District of Columbia (14% of all female murders and 3% of all male murders) from 2002 to 2004, in cases where homicide motives can be established.
- In 2007, 4,811 clients visited DC's two Domestic Violence Intake Centers (DVICs)—an average of 19 clients each day. This number shows an increase of 2.4% from 4,696 clients in 2006.
- Of the 4,811 DVIC clients in 2007, 3,327 (69.2%) of them visited the central DVIC at DC Superior Court, and 1,484 (30.8%) visited the DVIC Southeast Satellite at Greater Southeast Community Hospital.
- 3,863 clients visiting the DVICs in 2007 ultimately filed for Civil Protection Orders. 44.3% (1,711) of these orders were granted.
- In 2007, SAFE's CAP advocates provided extensive services through a total of 5,737 client contacts at the DC Superior Court's two Domestic Violence Intake Centers-an increase of 12.8% over 2006. Services provided included:
- safety planning assistance and crisis intervention for 3,419 clients;
- general legal assistance to 2,428 clients;
- assistance with housing through the Crime Victims Compensation Program for 1,822 clients;
- emergency financial assistance to 321 clients;
- and referrals to supportive agencies and organizations-such as housing, employment, and children's resources-for 2,336 clients.
- In 2007, SAFE's OCAP advocates provided after-hours assistance to 647 survivors. Services provided included:
- provision of safe shelter for 88 clients;
- $177.15 in prepaid Metro farecards;
- $1,014.20 worth of emergency food for clients staying in hotels;
- and 10 Emergency Temporary Protection Orders.
- In 2007, 363 (6.3%) of SAFE clients were Hispanic/Latino, 286 clients (5.0%) had limited proficiency in English and 242 (4.2%) were born outside of the United States.
